The data below is drawn from our Q2 2026 platform analytics, covering roughly 9.4 million sessions across all titles. We segment by platform, time of day, and session length to extract the patterns. The headline finding: mobile players play more often for shorter periods, while desktop players play less often for longer periods — and the total time spent per active player per week is remarkably similar across both platforms. Two details from this data are worth highlighting. Where Mobile Shines

Mobile's defining advantage is availability. The device is already in your pocket, already unlocked, already connected. There is no boot-up, no login, no "let me just open my laptop." For a format whose entire appeal is fitting into small gaps of time, that immediacy is not a nice-to-have — it is the product. A puzzle game that takes thirty seconds to start on mobile would take a meaningful fraction of your available play window on desktop.

The second advantage is the input. Touch is, for many puzzle mechanics, a more natural interface than a mouse. Pouring liquid in a water sort puzzle, dragging a block into place, swiping a row in a hex grid — these are gestures that map directly to finger movements. Performance is the dimension where desktop most obviously wins on paper and most surprisingly does not win in practice. A modern desktop has a faster CPU, more memory, and a stable power supply — all of which should make it the superior platform for graphically intensive games. In practice, the picture is more complicated, because desktop performance is more variable than mobile performance in ways that matter for casual games.

The reason is fragmentation. Mobile devices come in a relatively small number of hardware configurations, especially within iOS, and our performance team can tune for a known set of chips. Desktop, by contrast, runs on an almost infinite combination of CPUs, GPUs, browser versions, and extension loads. A player on a 2018 MacBook Air with fifty browser tabs open may have a nominally faster machine than a 2024 Moto G, but they are also running background video calls, an IDE, three Slack instances, and a music player. The desktop is slower in the median because of background load, despite being faster in raw compute. This is why we measure on real devices and real conditions — lab data flatters the desktop in ways the field does not.

The implication is not that desktop is bad — it is that the desktop performance budget has to be defended against a different set of threats than the mobile one. What we do about it

Our design principle is that accessibility should not require choosing a platform. Every game we ship targets both platforms' accessibility affordances: large touch targets for motor accessibility on mobile, full keyboard navigation for desktop, color palettes that do not rely on red-green distinctions alone, and respect for the browser's prefers-reduced-motion setting.
